Canon University Inkjet Project
-
The University Inkjet Program, launched in 2019, offers students practical experience and insight into modern print industry trends and practices. Through collaborative activities, students can see first-hand how the business of production printing operates to gain a better understanding of inkjet technology, production print service providers, and how the industry continues to evolve. The list of higher education institutions that are part of the program includes Arizona State University (ASU), Clemson University, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

My project partner, Hannah Starrett, and I were tasked with creating a fake university to brand with promotional marketing tools directed towards the print and direct mail industries.
The required applications included poster design, an 8 page booklet, 2 postcard (one for academics and one for sports) with personalization and embellishment, and an envelope design with included letter.I was in charge of cohesive branding and color choices, as well as designing the duck mascot and university logo. I completed the poster, both post cards, and the letter, while Hannah completed the 8 page booklet and the envelope design. This was all completed with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, and Lightroom Classic.
Here is the acceptance poster for the fictional Colorado school, University of Calhan!
This was designed and finalized in Adobe InDesign, with assets being originally sketched in Photoshop and turned into reusable vector images in Illustrator and the background stock image being edited in both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.
This is a model of an acceptance letter from University of Calhan, complete with the duck emblem, admissions signature, and “UC” letters. This utilizes type pairing of a simple sans-serif font for the header and the typical serif letter copy font of Times New Roman, including all the information you’d hope to find in an acceptance letter!
The accompanying design is the front design of a custom 8.5in by 11in UC envelope, not just to house the letter, but all the additional promotional material like poster, post cards and informational booklet, designed to keep in mind the space needed for proper shipping, including the minimum stamp space, post office barcode area, address space and alternate barcode area, as well as the proper margins.
Both pieces were made in InDesign with assets made in Illustrator, and a handwritten signature.
Post Card 1, Front and Back
Post Card 2, Front and Back
These are the two versions of postcards, each tailored to the specific conditions of the students acceptance! The first, a general acceptance for a student starting college in a post-pandemic society and the second, a warm welcome to student athlete and update them on what to expect for the start of the new year.
The mockup of these postcards presented here have distinctly bright red areas; these were created to utilize the offset lithography capabilities by printing a holographic layer over the white areas of the design and text to give them a silver metallic pop!
Both post cards were designed and finalized in Adobe InDesign with previously made and utilized custom logos from Illustrator, and background stock image being edited in both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.
Below is the accompanying booklet filled with information about the University of Calhan, who the Ducks are, housing, dining, Greek life, academics, and alumni testimonies.
The booklet was designed and finalized in Adobe InDesign, with the assets made in Illustrator, and the background and student stock image being edited in both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.
